Photos from Bright Bank, a salt dome bank approximately 12 miles east of the East Flower Garden Bank in the Gulf of Mexico. The bank is tipped by a coral cap that rises to within 115 feet of the surface, which is where these photos were taken. Our dives occurred on Sept. 6, 2003 and are thought to be the first recreational dives on this site. However, treasure salvers preceded us in search of Spanish treasure from a galleon thought to have sunk here. The coral cap is littered with discarded salvage equipment and two large excavation holes have been dug.
