This raccoon was inside a hollow cypress tree when I first saw it. I paddled over with little optimism that it would stay. Sure enough, when I arrived at the hollow tree, the raccoon was out of sight. Then it reappeared from behind the trunk and calmly went about its business of feeling out supper (breakfast, actually, in raccoon time) from the muddy bank in the late afternoon winter light.
