Every now and then Sharon and I like to get away from blue water and coral reefs and do something different. Here's a representative sample of fossils found off the coast of Venice, Florida. Starting with the large fossilized scallop shell on the top left and going clockwise, a fossilized murex shell, a tooth from the extinct snaggletooth shark (Hemipristis serra), a fossilized bull shark tooth, a fossilized sand tiger shark tooth, a fossilized lemon shark tooth, a tooth from the extinct megalodon shark, a fossilized stingray spine, a fossilized tooth from an extinct horse, and a tooth from an extinct mako shark (Isurus hastalis). All of these finds are from two to twenty million years old.
