It's not uncommon to see moorhens in the Spanish Lake Basin, but they're furtive and difficult to photograph. I've seen them most often under stands of tall vegetation on the edge of Cypress Flats or in the weeds right at the Alligator Bayou Landing boat ramp. This one was being noisy and conspicuous--possibly to distract me from the four chicks that were hiding nearby.
