Just when I think I have alligators somewhat figured out, one surprises me. This smallish 'gator was sunning and mouth-gaping one day in late April. I expected it to either ignore me or slip into the water when I approached. Instead, it charged a short distance directly toward me, then stopped. I took this photo right before it charged me again. I don't suppose it could have dragged me into the water and drowned me, but I'm pretty danged sure it would have left a mark.
