The multi-faceted, compound eyes of dragonflies are remarkable things. The receptors in the top part of the eye are sensitive to ultraviolet and blue light; the bottom receptors are sensitive to longer wavelengths such as greens and reds. The remarkable eyes, combined with extraordinary aerial agility and a strategy of motion camouflage which makes them appear stationary to their prey when they are actually attacking enable these animals to hunt entirely by sight and catch their prey on the wing.
