During my long career of diving, I've seen the fall and rise of this great fish. Goliath grouper were not uncommon in the 1970s, when they were called "jewfish". They were fished to the critical point in the 1980s and '90s, but began a comeback in the 2000s. They're common again on Florida reefs. This one was found near the shallow wreck City of Washington near Key Largo.
