Spinner sharks are small (usually 3-5 feet in length), sleek sharks that are sometimes seen in early morning or late afternoon at the Flower Gardens Banks or around the perimeter of nearby oil rigs. They are somewhat unusual in that they often form schools of 10 or more animals, and identification is often confirmed by this schooling behavior. These little sharks sometimes leap from the water in spectacular aerial displays.
