On July 7, 2001, I was fortunate to be a part of the first scuba expedition to dive a spire of Geyer Bank, a salt dome bank 120 miles south of Cameron, LA in the Gulf of Mexico. The trip was headed by Houston-based photographer,
Jesse Cancelmo. After my first dive, I met Jesse on my way back to the boat and made a gesture meant to convey "more butterflyfish than you can shake a stick at". He took the gesture to mean "I'm narced out of my gourd" and watched me closely for the rest of the trip.
