This alligator was encountered on a warm day in late winter. My experience has been that alligators sunning totally out of the water are generally difficult to approach. This one was completely out of the water on a log, so I hid near the bow of The POS while Sharon steered with a paddle and a convenient wind blew us close. The boat snagged on bottom debris and stopped just as we were getting too close. The gator raised its head just enough to catch the sunlight in its eye. Sometimes things just work out.
